Global hits Fast Track 100 of UK’s fastest growing private companies
The rapid growth and success of the Global Energy Group has seen it achieve a high ranking in a prestigious league table of the UK’s fastest growing private companies.
The group was placed 29th in the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100, which ranks Britain’s 100 privately owned companies with the fastest growing sales.
Global, which has main offices in Aberdeen and Inverness, was the highest placed of three Scottish firms to make it onto the list, published this week, and was some 44 places ahead of the next nearest entry from north of the border.
The company’s placing is based on its sales growth of 103 per cent a year, from £11.3 million in 2005, the year it was launched, to £94.3 million in 2008 and its future growth prospects. The group’s turnover in the 2008-09 financial year was approximately £130 million.
Global chairman, Roy MacGregor, said: “I am delighted and proud that the group’s development over the last few years has been recognised nationally by its inclusion in this prestigious league table. It is a great accolade for us.
“Our rapid growth is a result of our firm strategic focus on organic expansion and acquisition both in the UK and internationally. Although the current economic conditions are very different from when we started out in 2005, we are confident this strategy will continue to bring us further development and success.
“The most important factor in achieving that is our people. We know that recruiting the best people and helping them develop further on every front is vital in building a successful team. On behalf of the Global board, I would like to thank the entire workforce for their efforts, dedication and achievements.”
Now in its 13th year, the annual league table is compiled by Oxford-based research and networking events company Fast Track, with sponsorship from Virgin, HSBC, KPMG and Royal Mail.
The UK-wide list was headed by Cyclescheme, a Bath-based company specialising in bicycle scheme administration, who, with sales of £22,748,000 in 2008, achieved sales growth of 347.91 per cent over the past three years.
Sir Richard Branson, of the main sponsors Virgin, said: “The last year has been one of the toughest I remember in business; but the fear of the early part of 2009 has been replaced by optimism we will find a way through.
“This sense of optimism is reflected in the sterling performance of the Fast Track 100 companies who are expecting impressive continued growth this year.”
Most of the 100 companies on the list are based in London (32) and the north of England (22), with 22 from the South-east, 12 from the South-west, seven from the Midlands, four from the East of England and two from Wales.
